Profession: Opera Singer
Christel LINDSTAT was born in France. She was drawn to the theater and singing from the age of seventeen. In 1978, she won the “Premier prix de Théâtre et Culture” in VERSAILLES, acting in a play by Federico GARCÍA LORCA given in the original Spanish: “La Zapatera Prodigiosa”.
At the same time as she was studying Modern Languages (English, German, Italian and Spanish) at the University of AIX-EN-PROVENCE, Christel LINDSTAT won two Gold Medals in “Singing” and “Art Lyrique” at the National Conservatoire of AIX-EN-PROVENCE (Région AIX-EN-PROVENCE), where she studied under Robert ANDREOZZI and Josette CAYSAC.
Christel LINDSTAT commenced her career
at the Theater of AIX-EN-PROVENCE in 1982, singing many rôles in Operetta.
She was to reproduce them all around France, playing
Soeur Opportune (Les
Mousquetaires au Couvent), Bacchis (La Belle - Hélène),
Manon (Die Lustige
Witwe), Clémence
(Mireille), Véronique
(Véronique) and Madame
Lange (La Fille de Madame Angot), Comtesse Olga (Valses de
Vienne)...
In the mid 1980s Christel LINDSTAT began to study the repertoire of Italian Opera appearing in the roles of Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana) 1982, Flora 1983, (Madama Butterfly) 1984, Gran Sacerdotessa (Aida) 1985, as well as Siebel (Faust) 1985, Mercedes (Carmen) 1987, and Javotte (Manon) in French Opera.
In 1984, Christel LINDSTAT was
signed up for the Festival of AIX-EN-PROVENCE in
“Passagio” by Luciano
BERIO and in “Arone”
conducted by Pierre BOULEZ. She also had the honour of
creating the principal rôle in the contemporary opera
“Sutarti” by
Paul-Anthony DIRMEIKIS, with whom she made a recording in
1986 that was transmitted several months later by the
national Radio: “France-Musique”. She also participated in
the recording of the famous album of R. BACCHERINI:
“Habanera”.
Since 1997, with the developing of the Voice Register (Tessitura), Christel LINDSTAT has definitely moved on to the contralto repertoire: Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice), Carmen (Carmen), La Principessa (Suor Angelica), La Cieca (La Gioconda), Maddalena (Rigoletto)... and especially on to the Wagnerian repertoire and the Lied repertoire, which particularly seem to suit her. She has been heard singing Erda (Das Rheingold), Waltraute, erste Norne (Götterdämmerung), as well as performing Lieder of SCHUBERT, WAGNER, MAHLER... but also MOZART, VIVALDI, HANDEL and of course the French melody repertoire : FAURÉ, POULENC, DUPARC, LALO, SATIE...
Although her vocation and training
are above all theatrical, Christel LINDSTAT also
appears in many concerts undertaking parts of
religious music: oratorios, cantatas, masses,
requiem... and in recitals throughout France.
Master-classes, vocal courses, stays abroad, teaching practices with: Hans HOTTER, Christa LUDWIG, Pierre BOULEZ, Luciano BERIO, José VAN-DAM, Teresa BERGANZA, Asher FISCH, Nadine DENIZE, Alain FONDARY allowed her to build a strong and successful vocal technique and musical culture.
